Every Last Detail Feature: A Romantic Asheville Wedding

We are so excited to see Mollie & Matt’s wedding featured on Every Last Detail today! Mollie is Asheville Event Co. wedding planner Liz’s sister, so this was quite a special wedding for us! Liz was integral in the planning and design of her wedding, but on the day of Mollie’s wedding, Liz took over as Matron of Honor and Cortney led the coordination.

From Mollie, the Bride: As soon as we got engaged, Matt and I knew that we wanted to be married in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I grew up, even though we both now reside in Manhattan. We knew the Asheville area would be the perfect setting for our New York friends who had no idea the beauty they were in for, and a special place for all of our North Carolina friends to reunite.

Our ceremony was held in a garden surrounded by trees at the beautiful, historic old estate and working farm of Sherrill’s Inn, in Fairview. We kept the ceremony space simple, decorated by the lush greenery and ancient boxwoods around it. The focal point was our chuppah draped in gorgeous flowers and greenery. One of the sweetest moments in our ceremony was when Matt’s grandmother spoke about his grandfather who passed away three years ago. She met him on July 1st, 1950 – which she noted was 67 years to the day before our wedding day. We also used their wedding rings for our ceremony, which felt particularly poignant.

The weather was cool and breezy until our cocktail hour, when it poured rain! Everyone cozied up under the huge wraparound porch at Old Sherrill’s Inn for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and they were still able to enjoy the beautiful mountain views to the north and east.

For the reception, we moved to a candlelit tent in a grassy field just below the Inn’s apple orchards. As it continued to drizzle outside, we watched as cows and horses grazed on the hillside behind us and we enjoyed dinner under the glow of the cafe lights above us. Just as dinner finished, the rain stopped and we were able to dance under the stars with the moon rising and the stars coming out. It was a perfect end to the most beautiful day with our family and friends.
